How to Fix the Problem of Calls Not Ringing and Going Straight to Voicemail

Have you ever experienced a situation where someone tried to call you, but your phone did not ring and the call went straight to your voicemail? This can be frustrating for both the caller and the receiver, as it may seem like you are ignoring the call or have poor reception. However, there are many possible reasons why this problem occurs, and most of them can be fixed easily. In this article, we will explain some of the common causes and solutions for calls not ringing and going straight to voicemail.

Check Your Phone Settings

One of the first things you should do is check your phone settings and make sure that nothing is interfering with your incoming calls. Some of the settings that can affect your calls are:

  • Do Not Disturb mode: This is a feature that silences all notifications and calls on your phone, except for those from your favorite contacts or specific apps. You can turn it on or off manually, or set a schedule for when it should be active. To check if Do Not Disturb mode is on, look for a moon icon on your status bar. If it is on, swipe down from the top of your screen and tap on the icon to turn it off. Alternatively, you can go to Settings > Do Not Disturb and toggle it off.
  • Call forwarding: This is a feature that allows you to redirect your incoming calls to another number, such as your voicemail or another phone. You can use it when you are busy, traveling, or unreachable. To check if call forwarding is enabled, open your Phone app and tap on the three dots icon at the top right corner. Then, tap on Settings > Calls > Call forwarding and make sure it is turned off. If it is on, tap on each option and disable it.
  • Blocked numbers: This is a feature that allows you to block unwanted calls from specific numbers or unknown callers. You can block numbers from your call history, contacts, or messages. To check if you have blocked any numbers, open your Phone app and tap on the three dots icon at the top right corner. Then, tap on Settings > Blocked numbers and see if there are any numbers on the list. If there are, tap on the minus sign next to each number to unblock it.

Check Your Network Coverage

Another possible reason why your calls are not ringing and going straight to voicemail is that you have poor or no network coverage. This can happen when you are in a remote area, inside a building, or near an obstacle that blocks the signal. To check your network coverage, look at the signal bars on your status bar. If they are low or empty, try moving to a different location where you can get a better signal. You can also try turning on airplane mode for a few seconds and then turning it off again. This will refresh your connection and may improve your reception.

Check Your SIM Card

Sometimes, the problem may be caused by a faulty or damaged SIM card. Your SIM card is the small chip that identifies your phone number and connects you to your network provider. If it is not inserted properly, scratched, or corrupted, it may prevent your phone from receiving calls. To check your SIM card, turn off your phone and remove the SIM card tray from the side of your phone. Then, take out the SIM card and inspect it for any visible damage. If there is any, contact your network provider and request a replacement. If there is none, clean the SIM card with a soft cloth and reinsert it into the tray. Make sure it is aligned correctly and fits snugly into the slot. Then, insert the tray back into your phone and turn it on.

Contact Your Network Provider

If none of the above solutions work, then the problem may be on your network provider’s end. There may be some technical issues or maintenance work that affect their service quality and availability. To find out if this is the case, contact your network provider and ask them if there are any problems or outages in your area. They may also be able to check your account status and settings and see if there are any errors or restrictions that prevent you from receiving calls. If there are any issues, they should be able to fix them or advise you on what to do next.

Calls not ringing and going straight to voicemail can be annoying and inconvenient for both parties involved. However, most of the time, this problem can be solved by checking and adjusting some simple settings on your phone or moving to a better location with more network coverage. If these do not work, you may need to contact your network provider and ask them for assistance. By following these steps, you should be able to fix this problem and receive calls normally again.
